Introduction
During installation of iDempiere english and spanish language are installed automagically.
There are already several other translations for iDempiere available. Every different Translation is called "Language Pack". A language pack is an archive consisting of different XML files. Every XML-file follows the convention: Tablename_Name_Translated_Language_Dialect.
All language packs are independent from an iDempiere version. When importing a language pack of an older version into a newer version of iDempiere the translation occurs for all available informations in the pack. Remaining menu points are still displayed in its english original version.
Effects of modified language files
Main reason for our following adjustments is primarily displaying menuentries and headers of inputfields and selectboxes in inputmasks. Additionally dateformat, timedisplay and floating point are changed, the latter in comma. A few of iDempiere's table-contents are now configured or translated according german habits.
Obtaining language packs
use of supplied language packs
When using iDempiere it is not in every case necessary to load language packs from internet. During installation of iDempiere a set of different languages is already stored in directory
idempiere-server/data.
Our desired language, in this case german, may be installed by using that directory.
use alternative language pack
Note: It is suggested to use a supplied language pack.
They are often more up-to-date and customized to newer versions of iDempiere.
As another alternative you can get the german language pack from the following web-page by making the appropriate selection:
- Language Packs
- German (DE)
- Base German Translation Pack
- Trl_de_DE_20070721.zip
Download this file and unpack it in any directory.
(More informations on of german language packs)
Afterwards these files are moved into the data-directory "de_DE" below the iDempiere directory.
Alternatively you can use any directory because those files are only used temporarily during the change of a language.
On a Debian OS this happens with administration privileges, user root. There you'll find the mentioned language packs in directory /opt/iDempiere/data/de_DE.
Installation of language packs
First your login is necessary in english. Any other language of the language-selection leads to an error.
